The Coming Boom For The Flash Platform

Expounding on my love letters to Flash, I’d like to take a moment to recognize the great opportunities the Flash Platform is about to realize. It’s always been a great time to be a Flash Developer, but now more than ever. The recent platform expansions into the mobile, installation, and the gaming space are sparking the beginning of what I see as a boom time for the Flash Platform. Those that have recently decried fantastical predictions of Flash’s demise at the hands of JavaScript & HTML 5 are greatly exaggerated and a bit misguided. Yes, JavaScript and HTML 5 will eat into the Flash Platform pie share, but the opportunities afforded from advances into new realms will far outweigh the losses in others. The three spaces I mention above are the obvious that Flash has already begun to permeate. There will be many others.

I got into Flash in the mid-late 90’s when FutureSplash was purchased by Macromedia and became Flash 1.0. I had salivating clients I’d just met at breakfast joints more than happy to hand over $3000 checks without any contract or portfolio, just because I knew Flash.That was a boon because Flash was new, we’re about to see a boon because Flash is mature.
