As part of a larger integrated campaign to promote the Microsoft Microsoft KIN, the task for theGOOD was to develop an application to showcase the KIN’s many features in Verizon Wireless stores across the country.

The challenge was to develop a consumer-facing application that enticed shoppers to stop, interact with the application and ultimately consider purchasing the phone. From a technical standpoint the application needed to run identically on varying sized and powered netbooks. The application needed to function autonomously, while inviting consumers to interact with it.

theGOOD developed and animated the application in Flash published for Adobe AIR, and partnered with Cinco Design who handed off design assets. On a technical note: Sequentially-animated linear applications such as this are typically very difficult to update or alter. For this purpose theGOOD developed a dynamic system that enables easy updates to the many dependencies involved. The result was a consumer-focused, animated, in-store application that solved for Microsoft Kin’s challenges, and solidified a new partnership with Cinco Design.

Beloved in the Pacific Northwest, Tillamook County Creamery Association was ready to spread the love of its cheese to other parts of the country via a national Loaf Love bus tour. As part of Tillamook’s interactive strategy for the tour, theGOOD was tasked with engaging the nation’s passionate community of cheese consumers and introducing them to Tillamook in cities across the country.

The challenge was to create an experiential website that showcased elements of Tillamook’s tour, while enticing consumers to engage with, and share, content via social media. theGOOD responded by concepting, designing, and developing a socially-engaging mini-site — complete with a full client content management system — that interfaced and shared data with Flickr and Facebook.

On the mini-site visitors are able to view user-generated photos and videos from each tour stop, send user-generated cheese poems to friends on Facebook, upload photos to Flickr and Facebook, enter photo contests, and follow the tour using an interactive map.

The mini-site also aggregates real-time data from a Facebook application and displays it in a heat map visualization that lives both on Facebook and the site. On Facebook fans are encouraged to “Share The Loaf”, creating loaf notes that they can send to friends and post on their wall.

By leveraging the mini-site, Tillamook increased its brand visibility on multiple platforms, engaged users to share content, increased its user base, and most importantly sold more cheese to new and expanded geographic markets.

As part of a larger campaign to brand Downtown Portland NORTH was charged with creating an outdoor reactive environment installation in which passersby could interact — based on their location and movements — with artists’ interpretations of snowfall in Portland.

theGOOD was tasked with design and development of the interactive installation using a custom built motion detection platform. Challenges abound with all the environmental factors that go along with an installation of this scope.

Three traditional artists were commissioned by The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art to create their interpretation of snowfall in downtown Portland. The interactive application was built to display three different scenes with randomly-generated snowfall. The three scenes were set to rotate on a timed interval. The application used motion detection to make the falling snowfall react and animate based on the location of an individual’s movement passing by on the sidewalk.

The result was a captivated Portland public that was engaged with a unique interactive experience. The project is also a successful study on the implementation of new technology and a reactive medium into a larger branding campaign.

theGOOD was tasked with answering The Software Association of Oregon‘s question: “How can art, technology, and the synergy of the two, address humanity’s next evolutionary step?”

The challenge for theGOOD was to create an interactive installation that used a combination of motion detection and generative art to explore the convergence of man and technology.

theGOOD designed and built a custom application that tracked the motion of people, captured images of said person, and allowed them to “paint” their portrait on to a 16-foot wall using nothing but their limbs.

The result was a highly interactive art installation that amazed participants – engagement time averaged over 10 minutes per user. People invested themselves in the piece to the point of bringing out their own inner artist. Several times theGOOD team stepped in to ‘coach’ people on how to get the most out of the motion detection while drawing their portrait. The response we received was unexpected. People took personal offense that we were pushing our artistic ideas on their own drawing. At that moment we knew the installation was a success.

Use the online version of the installation.
